Franklin Avenue Overgrowth – County Response

Franklin Avenue Overgrowth - County Response

Posted June 13, 2025 - Apple Valley HOA

Good news on the Franklin Avenue frontage next to Sanlando Park: after our HOA formally escalated the long-standing vegetation and fence issues, Seminole County Parks & Recreation has assigned an internal team to begin clearing the area.

What we learned

  • The County acknowledged that earlier phone-call replies of "not a priority" were inappropriate and apologized for the confusion.
  • A single third-party bid to tackle the job came in at about $40,000, which stalled immediate action.
  • The County will start the cleanup with its own staff while it evaluates additional contracting options.

What's next

  • Initial in-house trimming - County crews intend to cut back vines, brush, and saplings along the 825-foot stretch (Candlewick Rd. to Hillcrest St.) this summer.
  • Fence inspection & repair - Once vegetation is cleared, the bent panel hidden in the growth will be evaluated and scheduled for repair or replacement.
  • Litter removal - Trash inside the fence line will be collected during the same visit.
  • Routine maintenance - The Parks department is reviewing how often the frontage can be added to its regular trimming cycle to avoid future overgrowth.

How you can help

  • Please use extra caution driving or walking on Franklin Avenue while crews are present.
  • If you notice safety hazards after the first round of trimming, email info@applevalleyhoa.org with photos so we can act quickly.

We will keep residents updated as dates are confirmed. Thank you to everyone who reported the problem, and thanks to the County staff who are working toward a safer, cleaner edge to our neighborhood.
